A message from the Headteacher

Choosing a secondary school for your child is never easy. Of course we want our children to attend a school that will push them to the maximum so that they will fulfil their potential, but we also want them to be safe, secure and happy. At Queen Eleanor Technology College I am confident that we can offer parents all of these things.

This is a very exciting time in the development of the school. As a recent addition to the specialist schools movement we have benefited from additional funding that has allowed us to invest heavily in new technology. Every member of staff has a lap top computer which is used not only as a teaching tool but to track achievement, attendance and behaviour. New ICT facilities were opened in June 2006. All in all then the school has the staff and the facilities to provide high quality education for all our children.

We pride ourselves on the quality of pastoral care that the children enjoy. Our pastoral system is based on Year groups and Houses which provide a feeling of a 'community within a community'. Form Tutors and Heads of Year monitor academic and social progress whilst the relatively small size of the school means that pupils receive individual attention and care rather than becoming 'nameless faces', as can happen in large schools.

Over the last few years the school has enjoyed academic success. In 2006 we are continuing this success with nationally excellent results in KS3 Science. The most recent OFSTED inspection in 2007 highlighted the many excellent qualities of the school. The success of the school over time was rewarded by a School Achievement Award' from the Department for Education and Skills in 2003. Since then we have gone on to achieve "Investor in People" and "Healthy School" awards. Queen Eleanor is a forward looking community school committed to progress.

Within these Parent's Pages we hope to give you a brief introduction to the aims and values of the school, its general routines and organisation. We aim to provide learning for life through quality education in a supportive and positive environment. We strive to give all of our students a wide range of experiences, opportunities and responsibilities as we utilise our superb facilities on a single site. We hope to cover most areas, but you may well have further questions. The school is always open for more detailed enquiries and visits can be arranged by telephoning. We look forward to meeting you.
